Could you be a better friend to your body?

I used to think my body was a great friend of mine because I was living a hyper-active life and my body never said anything, I was full of energy and never sick. Then, when I was 20 I slowly started to have some food intolerances, which impacted more and more my daily life. By the time I was 25, I was quite upset with my body: why was it letting me down?

After working on my relationship with my body, I realised two things:

  • First, I realised that if my body was my best friend, I certainly wasn’t her best friend! I was just using her as a tool to do what I wanted.

  • Then, I learnt that my body –like everyone’s body- is very clever and constantly talks to me. This means if I listen to my body, I can learn hips of things about what I am feeling deep down, about if something is really good for me or not and what are the things I can improve in my life and how. Yes, all of this!

So I am asking you the question now:

Are you your body’s best friend?

And do you truly listen to your body messages?

If you are interested by this question, here is a little exercise I can suggest today:

  1. Sit in a comfortable position and in a place where you won’t be disturbed for the next 3 minutes

  2. Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths

  3. Take 30 seconds to really feel your body and your energy moving inside it

  4. Ask yourself: is my body wanting to tell me something now?

  5. Now is the tough bit: “Do not answer with your head!” Let you body answer.

Let me explain. When you ask yourself this question, you will probably hear many answers in your head. But these are probably coming from your thinking and you already know these answers. Today, you want to hear something new!

So take the time to let these thoughts pass and stay there, patiently listening to your body. Focus on your physical sensation and let your body talk to you…

Good luck with your quest!
